Taiwan ministry warns employers over student labour cover
Workers can submit evidence if they find insurance or pension violations.
Taiwan's Ministry of Labour has reminded employers to provide labour insurance and pension contributions for students taking part-time jobs during the summer holiday.
The ministry said employers must enrol student workers in Labour Insurance, Employment Insurance and Occupational Accident Insurance from their first day of work, as reported by the Taiwan Immigrants’ Global News Network.
Employers must also contribute at least 6% of a student's monthly wage to the Labour Pension Fund, and the contribution cannot be deducted from the employee's salary.
The ministry said employers are required to declare insurance based on the student's actual salary, regardless of the size of the company.
Employers that fail to provide insurance or make false salary declarations may face fines and be required to compensate workers for any resulting losses.
The ministry also encouraged parents to help their children verify their insurance coverage and pension contributions through payroll records or the Bureau of Labour Insurance's online service.
Workers who identify violations can submit supporting evidence to protect their legal rights.
