Vietnam’s Health Insurance Fund spent $6b on patient care in 2024
Over 186.2 million received medical examination and treatment.
In 2024, Vietnam's Health Insurance Fund disbursed $5.63b for the medical examination and treatment of over 186.2 million outpatient and inpatient visits, marking an increase of 12.2 million visits and $732.6m compared to 2023.
The policy’s success was attributed to the collaboration between Vietnam Social Security (VSS) and the Ministry of Health.
Efforts focused on optimising fund use, ensuring timely and accurate payments, and addressing challenges to safeguard participants' rights, VSS said.
Notably, outstanding payments from previous years were settled, enabling medical establishments to deliver healthcare services effectively.
Additionally, the VSS said the amended Law No. 51/2024/QH15, set to take effect on 1 July, introduces reforms such as nationwide 100% coverage for primary and inpatient care and expanded access to specialised care for critical illnesses without referral requirements.
