Canopius reels in new CEO for APAC, MENA

Soon Keen Lee is expected to join Canopius before the end of Q2’24.

Specialty and P&C (re)insurer, Canopius, has announced the appointment of Soon Keen (“SK”) Lee as its new chief executive officer (CEO) of Asia Pacific (APAC) and Middle East & North Africa (MENA) business.

Lee will report directly to Neil Robertson, CEO of Canopius Group, and will join the Canopius Group Leadership Team.

With 28 years of extensive experience in the insurance industry, Lee joins Canopius Group from AIG APAC, where she most recently served as Head of Commercial Property and SME for APAC.

Throughout her career, Lee has held various high-profile P&C insurance roles, establishing herself as a leading underwriter in the region.

During her tenure at AIG, Lee managed the Asia Pacific Commercial Property and SME portfolio. Additionally, she has held senior insurance and treaty roles at Catlin and Aspen Re Singapore. In her new role, Lee will lead Canopius’s APAC Business Unit, overseeing operations in Singapore and Australia. 

She will succeed Mark Newman, the former CEO of Canopius APAC, who recently transitioned to the role of UK CEO in London. Lee will lead the regional executive committee and will be tasked with further evolving Canopius’s APAC operations, which saw a growth of 35% in 2023.

She is expected to join Canopius before the end of Q2 2024.
