China launches tip-off portal for insurance fraud reporting
Informants may receive a one-time reward ranging from$27.8 to $27,427.
China’s National Healthcare Security Administration has introduced a new tip-off service via its official WeChat account, allowing the public and social organisations to report suspected medical insurance fraud.
Informants may receive a one-time reward ranging from $27.80 (RMB200) to $27,426.9 (RMB200,000), depending on the value and impact of the information provided.
The administration emphasised that the misuse of medical insurance funds harms public interests and called on broader public participation in identifying fraud.
In 2024, authorities recovered $3.8b (RMB27.5b) in misused medical insurance funds and arrested 10,741 individuals in connection with fraud cases.
The government has committed to further strengthening oversight to ensure that insurance funds are used effectively for public health.
