Generali, UNDP boost Thai MSME resilience with risk assessment tool
Key goals include raising entrepreneurs’ awareness of resilience strategies.
Generali Thailand and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) partner to build a risk assessment tool designed to enhance Thai micro, small, and medium enterprises’ (MSMEs) preparedness and resilience whilst narrowing the protection gap through tailored insurance solutions.
The initiative, Social Protection Framework, follows the release of a 2024 joint research report, “Building MSME Resilience in Southeast Asia”, which highlights the challenges faced by MSMEs in Thailand and Malaysia.
The report notes that MSMEs comprise 99.6% of all businesses in Thailand and 97.4% in Malaysia, serving as key drivers of socio-economic development.
In Thailand, the collaboration aims to strengthen MSMEs' risk management capabilities and promote sustainable business practices.
Key goals include raising entrepreneurs’ awareness of resilience strategies, enhancing operational capabilities, and expanding employee protection to address risks from economic changes, natural disasters, and climate challenges.
Generali Thailand Country Manager & CEO Arsh Kaumi pointed to risks such as climate-related challenges, natural disasters, and financing constraints as significant issues affecting MSMEs.
