Munich Re names Eric Zhao CEO, Beijing branch

Zhao will report to Steve Zhang, CEO of Life & Health Greater China.

Munich Re has appointed Eric Zhao as CEO of its Beijing branch, effective last 1 January 2026. 

Zhao will report to Steve Zhang, CEO of Life & Health Greater China.

He succeeds Adrian Goh, who will take on the role of chief risk officer for Asia-Pacific and the Middle East from 1 February 2026.

Zhao joined Munich Re in 2006 as head of operations and has since held senior roles across the business. 

He has experience in China’s life insurance market, having previously worked at two major primary insurers. 

Before entering the insurance industry, he worked as a doctor. Zhao holds degrees in medicine from Peking University and in law from the China University of Political Science and Law.
