Swiss Re welcomes new CEO, Mumenthaler steps down after 8 years
His role as CEO will be effective 1 July.
Swiss Re announced today that Andreas Berger will become group chief executive officer effective 1 July, succeeding Christian Mumenthaler, who will step down from the role.
Christian Mumenthaler, who has served as CEO for eight years. Swiss Re said under his leadership, the company’s premiums earned and fee income grew significantly, and the group's capitalization was strengthened substantially.
The selection process for Berger’s successor as CEO of corporate solutions has been initiated.
Berger joined Swiss Re in March 2019 as the chief executive officer of corporate solutions and became a member of the group executive committee.

Prior to joining Swiss Re, Berger held leadership positions at notable organisations including Boston Consulting Group, Gerling, and Allianz.
In 2009, he was appointed chief executive officer of Allianz Global Corporate & Specialty SE (AGCS) for the regional unit in London.
In 2011, Berger joined the AGCS Board of Management as the chief regions & market officer, overseeing Central & Eastern Europe, the Mediterranean, Africa, and Asia.
Berger currently serves as the chairman of the International Insurance Society and is a board member of Advance, a Swiss initiative for gender equality in business.
