This week in insurance: Sompo–Guidewire cloud partnership, Swiss Re acquires QBE credit and surety unit, Zurich moves to buy ClearView.

Manulife and Mahindra & Mahindra appointed Suresh Agarwal as CEO designate.

The insurance industry from 23 to 27 February saw strategic partnerships and acquisitions, major financing activity, distribution tie-ups, and several senior leadership appointments.

Sompo Group and Guidewire have partnered to expand the insurer’s use of the Guidewire Cloud Platform across its global operations.

Sompo will migrate existing Guidewire applications from on-premises systems to the cloud and deploy additional tools on the platform to support underwriting, policy administration, claims, and billing.

Swiss Re Corporate Solutions, the commercial insurance arm of the Swiss Re Group, will acquire the global trade credit and surety business of QBE Insurance Group (QBE).

Once the transaction is completed, the acquisition “will strengthen Swiss Re Corporate Solutions' primary credit and surety insurance offering and expand its capabilities to address the risk management needs of corporate clients.”

Zurich Financial Services Australia (Zurich) will acquire ClearView Wealth Limited (ClearView) through a scheme of arrangement, in a deal that values the life insurer at about $292.90m (A$415m).

The transaction has been unanimously recommended by ClearView’s board. If completed, ClearView shareholders will receive $0.46 (A$0.65) in cash for each share.

MUFG Bank and Singlife have completed a $550m bilateral financing facility, ranking amongst the largest transactions in Singapore’s insurance sector.

MUFG acted as capital structure adviser and financier for the facility, whilst Singlife will use the proceeds to redeem $550m of subordinated notes.

India’s Utkarsh Small Finance Bank Limited (Utkarsh SFBL) has partnered with Kotak Mahindra Life Insurance Company to offer insurance products and solutions to the bank’s customers.

QBE Asia has appointed Carles Tondo as head of property for Asia. Tondo is tasked with driving the growth of QBE Asia’s property business, overseeing property-related product strategy, pricing, and portfolio management. He will also ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements, QBE said in a press release on 23 February 2026.

Manulife and Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd. (M&M) have appointed Suresh Agarwal as the Managing Director and CEO designate of their proposed 50:50 life insurance joint venture.
