Allianz Partners launches cruise insurance with cruise line as bookings rise
Cruising now accounts for 10% of all travel amongst Australians.
Allianz Partners Australia has introduced a new cruise-specific travel insurance product in partnership with Norwegian Cruise Line (NCL), allowing customers to obtain quotes and purchase coverage directly through the cruise line’s website during the booking process.
The new insurance offering includes onboard medical and evacuation coverage, protection for cabin confinement, and formal wear coverage.
Previously available as add-ons, these benefits are now integrated into a standard travel insurance policy when purchased via NCL’s platform, simplifying the process for travellers. Standard terms, conditions, exclusions, and limits apply.
With cruising now accounting for 10% of all travel amongst Australians and 1.25 million Australians cruising annually, Allianz Partners is addressing growing demand through tailored products.
The global cruise sector has seen a 20% increase in passengers in 2024 compared to 2019, with projections estimating 40 million passengers by 2028.
Interest in cruising is also rising amongst Millennials and Gen X travellers.
Damien Arthur, Executive head of Travel at Allianz Partners Australia, said the partnership with NCL reflects the company’s focus on product innovation and customer convenience.
He noted that cruise travellers are highly likely to purchase travel insurance and the new integrated offering makes access to tailored cover more straightforward.
