Canopius welcomes new global head and CEO

He was previously chief executive for reinsurance in AXA XL Bermuda.

Canopius has appointed Charles Cooper as the global head of reinsurance and CEO of Canopius's Bermudian entities. 

Reporting to Canopius Group CEO Neil Robertson and joining the Canopius Group Leadership Team, Charles will assume his new role on 1 September.

Previously serving as Chief Executive for reinsurance in Bermuda at AXA XL, Cooper brings nearly 20 years of experience in the Bermudian reinsurance sector.

He played a role in establishing and implementing a global reinsurance strategy and operating model following AXA's acquisition of XL Group in 2018.

In his new role, Cooper will be responsible for driving Canopius's global reinsurance business strategy, leveraging favourable market conditions.

He will collaborate with reinsurance professionals in Bermuda, London, and Singapore to further develop the business as a significant growth driver.

Additionally, Cooper will focus on expanding Canopius's Bermuda platform, which received a Class 4 Reinsurer license from the Bermuda Monetary Authority in 2021. 

This licence broadens the business's scope and enhances its ability to capitalise on market opportunities.
