GIAJ approves guidelines to enhance insurance agent business quality

Education and examination system for agents and solicitors will also be improved.

The General Insurance Association of Japan (GIAJ) has approved new guidelines aimed at improving the business quality of insurance agents and solicitors.

At its sixth meeting on 3 March, GIAJ finalised the "Evaluation Guidelines for Agency Business Quality" following a public consultation.

These guidelines will serve as the foundation for a third-party evaluation system, which will begin trial operations after the establishment of an “Agency Business Quality Council” by June.

Adjustments will be made based on findings from the trial phase.

Additionally, GIAJ will enhance its education and examination system for agents and solicitors.

Starting in July, the question format for the General Examination for General Insurance Solicitors (Basic Unit) will be revised to ensure a more rigorous assessment of candidates’ knowledge.

Plans are also underway to implement a continuing education system and introduce qualifications for compliance officers.
