GIAJ pushes for earthquake insurance in risk zones
The association is also revising its business practices.
The General Insurance Association of Japan (GIAJ) has outlined several key initiatives aimed at addressing current challenges in Japan's insurance industry.
Notably, the association is focusing on improving the speed and accuracy of insurance claim payments, particularly in the wake of recent natural disasters, such as the July heavy rainfall and Typhoon No. 10. The industry is also working to restore public trust after recent data leaks.
The GIAJ has implemented measures to prevent future leaks by strengthening compliance with the Act on the Protection of Personal Information. Member companies involved in the breaches submitted detailed reports, addressing causes and prevention strategies.
The association is also revising its business practices, including tightening rules on employee secondments from insurance companies to prevent conflicts of interest and improving the quality of insurance agents.
Additionally, the GIAJ is promoting earthquake insurance, especially in disaster-prone regions, and is enhancing its digital services to improve customer convenience.
These steps are part of broader efforts to strengthen compliance, transparency, and customer-oriented operations across Japan's general insurance sector.
