Hong Kong Insurance Authority welcomes re-domicile bill passage
HKIA CEO said the legislation offers a simpler and more cost-effective pathway.
The Hong Kong Insurance Authority (HKIA) has welcomed the passage of the Companies (Amendment) (No. 2) Bill 2024 on 14 May 2025, which introduces a framework for overseas companies to re-domicile to Hong Kong.
According to the HKIA, the new regime is expected to attract insurers that are currently incorporated outside Hong Kong but already have a significant local presence.
HKIA CEO Clement Cheung said the legislation offers a simpler and more cost-effective pathway for these firms to move their corporate domicile to the city.
The IA plans to work with relevant parties to help interested insurers begin the re-domiciliation process under the new rules.
