Hong Kong insurance regulator cautions against fake insurance website

The website is posing as an insurance company.

The Hong Kong Insurance Authority is warning the public against a fake website posing as an insurance company with a domain name of “https://hongkongvibrate.com”. The website is said to contain false and misleading information about a company named “Hong Kong Vibrate Co., Limited”

“The company is not and never has been an authorized insurer or a licensed insurance intermediary under the Insurance Ordinance, Cap. 41, to carry on insurance business or regulated activities in or from Hong Kong,” the IA said.

“Members of the public are reminded to verify the status of any entity making use of the internet to solicit insurance business from the public. The full lists of authorized insurers and insurance intermediaries in Hong Kong can be found on the Register of Insurers and Register of Licensed Insurance Intermediaries on the IA website respectively,” the IA said.

Previously, the IA warned the public against calls from third parties pretending to be staff from the regulator.
