MSIG Insurance inaugurates assisted living cover for personal accident holders

This benefit was previously available only through life insurance.

MSIG Insurance (Malaysia) introduced MSIG PA Add-On: Assisted Living, a new option for its personal accident (PA) insurance policies.

This marks the first time a general insurer in Malaysia is offering coverage for assisted living expenses under a PA insurance product, a benefit previously available only through life insurance.

The add-on provides financial support of up to $1,141.81 (RM5,000) per month for a maximum of 12 months per injury.

The coverage applies to nursing care expenses incurred at a registered nursing home, care centre, or at home by a licensed nurse.

To qualify for a claim, a registered medical practitioner must certify that the policyholder is unable to perform at least three Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), which include dressing, washing, toileting, mobility, transfer, and feeding.

A follow-up assessment after six months is required to confirm continued eligibility.

Annual premiums for the add-on start at $8.45 (RM37). Malaysians, permanent residents, work permit holders, and their dependents aged 16 to 59 are eligible to purchase the add-on, with renewability up to 80 years old, subject to the type of PA policy held.

($1.00 = RM4.38)
