Why Australians rely on reviews when picking a health insurer
Younger Australians are the most active in checking reviews.
Most Australians rely on customer reviews when choosing a health insurer, according to Money.com.au.
The research, conducted in July 2025 with 1,000 respondents, found that 59% of policyholders check reviews before signing up or switching funds.
One in four respondents (25%) said they always read customer feedback, whilst 34% do so only if they are not familiar with the insurer.
In contrast, 25% of Australians stay with their fund out of habit, and 17% rely on comparison sites or word of mouth.
Younger Australians are the most active in checking reviews. Three-quarters of Millennials (75%) and 70% of Gen Z said they look at customer feedback before deciding on a fund.
This figure falls to 62% for Gen X and just 37% for Baby Boomers.
Money.com.au noted that policyholders make claims on average twice a year for hospital cover and five times for extras, making service quality and claims handling key factors influencing consumer choice.
