Ping An P&C settles 10,400 claims after Beijing hailstorm
The storm produced hailstones larger than 3 cm in diameter.
Ping An Property & Casualty Insurance, a subsidiary of Ping An Insurance (Group) Company of China, Ltd., activated a major emergency response following a severe hailstorm that struck multiple areas of Beijing on 13 May.
The storm produced hailstones larger than 3 cm in diameter, prompting the company to mobilise more than 2,000 staff from 38 branches and deploy 43 claims experts from neighbouring provinces to support disaster relief efforts.
As of 9 a.m. on 19 May, Ping An P&C had received 31,000 claims reports, settled 10,400 cases, and paid out $8.70 million (RMB62.15 million) in compensation.
Ping An’s proprietary risk mitigation platform, EagleX, detected the storm risks two hours before impact and sent early warnings, safety tips, and prevention guides to 3.17 million individuals and over 20,000 corporate clients via Ping An’s app ecosystem.
The system helped many customers avoid damage by securing their vehicles and properties ahead of the storm.
EagleX is an AI-powered platform that uses big data, satellite remote sensing, and machine learning to monitor and provide early alerts for nine types of natural disasters.
It is integrated into various Ping An insurance products, including auto, property, and agricultural coverage.
To support customers after the storm, Ping An P&C implemented a streamlined claims process.
The company maintained 24/7 reporting channels, with over 90% of affected policyholders receiving same-day callbacks.
For damages under $1,400 (RMB10,000), photo or video evidence was accepted without the need for on-site inspection.
For expenses under $280 (RMB2,000), customers with a clean claims history of three years or more were eligible for direct approval.
