Pacific Union Insurance Company bags two wins at Insurance Asia Awards 2025
It has made a huge impact with its operational innovations and employee development solutions.
Insurance firm Pacific Union Insurance Company (PUIC) landed two wins at the coveted Insurance Asia Awards 2025 for continuing to stand as a pillar of excellence, stability, and innovation in the Philippine non-life insurance industry, marked by innovations in operations and employee development initiatives.
PUIC was hailed as the Domestic General Insurer of the Year - Philippines for its remarkable achievements in the past year. It has also bagged the Training & Development Initiative of the Year - Philippines category for its training and development initiatives. The recognition comes at a particularly meaningful time, as the company celebrates its 80th anniversary, marking eight decades of excellence and innovation in the insurance industry.
In response to the evolving demands of the post-COVID era and stricter capitalisation requirements from regulators, PUIC made a conscious decision to prioritise innovation in every aspect of its operations. One of the company’s most impactful efforts has been its digitisation initiatives, which aim to enhance efficiency, accessibility, and trust.
These initiatives include the introduction of Electronic Policies with unique QR Codes, which allows policyholders to instantly verify the legitimacy of their insurance coverage, eliminating ambiguity, reducing fraud, and providing unmatched convenience. Alongside this, the company has also launched the PUIC Dashboard that gives partners and members a user-friendly platform to track performance, access key data, and manage accounts efficiently in real-time.

Beyond digital transformation, PUIC has demonstrated leadership in cultivating a strong, positive culture and a meaningful presence. The PUIC Active Club has energised employees and partners through fun and health-focussed activities such as step-counting contests, Zumba sessions, yoga, spinning, and a run club.
The company’s sense of corporate social responsibility also shines through its PUIC Cares programme. From hosting blood drives to organising hospital visits, PUIC proves that compassion is at the core of its values. Complementing these efforts is the PUIC Circle, a digital newsletter that educates the public on non-life insurance, offers practical tips, and shares company updates.
In just the past year, it has seen a 50% increase in social media engagement, significantly boosting its brand visibility and public connection. Financially, the company has achieved outstanding growth, including the rise of its gross premiums written (GPW) from PHP1.1b in 2023 to PHP1.44b in 2024, as well as the 44% surge in net underwriting income, from PHP296m to PHP426m.
Meanwhile, PUIC has also been lauded in the awards programme for its nationwide technical training sessions held during its mid-year and year-end conferences. These events bring together employees from across the country, creating a collaborative and knowledge-sharing environment.
The conference sessions focus on critical insurance topics such as risk selection, underwriting principles, various insurance lines, and claims processing. The company invites renowned insurance professionals both locally and internationally, ensuring that employees gain valuable insights from the best minds in the industry.
Complementing the technical aspect of the training programme is PUIC’s Support Education Program (SEP), a monthly seminar series that emphasises the importance of soft and life skills. With topics ranging from customer service excellence and sales etiquette to mental health awareness, SEP has been met with overwhelming participation, with over 85% of PUIC’s workforce attending at least one session in the past year.
These seminars have significantly contributed to a more engaged, empathetic, and effective workforce, positively influencing both workplace dynamics and individual well-being. The impact of these initiatives is not only seen in employee satisfaction, but also in tangible business results.
“What sets PUIC apart is its unwavering focus on continuous improvement. By actively engaging with employees to tailor training content based on their needs and feedback, the company ensures that its programmes remain relevant, effective, and aligned with both individual aspirations and organisational goals,” said Joy P. Carlos, PUIC President & CEO.
Marking its 10th anniversary, Insurance Asia Awards honours companies, initiatives, and leaders that have achieved outstanding milestones, set new benchmarks, and transformed the insurance landscape through cutting-edge innovation.
